  • ASCE Names Distinguished Members

    Group honors 11 civil engineers with its highest accolade
    June 25, 2008

    The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) recently named 11 exemplary civil engineers as distinguished members of the society.

    Formerly known as honorary membership, distinguished membership is the society's highest accolade and recognizes those who have achieved eminence in a branch of engineering. The active roster of distinguished members is comprised of only 193 of ASCE's more than 140,000 members worldwide. The new distinguished members will be inducted on Nov. 6 at ASCE's Annual Civil Engineering Conference in Pittsburgh.

    The 2008 distinguished members are:
    • Retired Maj. Gen. Joseph A. "Bud" Ahearn, P.E., senior executive with CH2M Hill

    • George W. Black, Jr., P.E., senior civil engineer and national resource specialist with the National Transportation Safety Board

    • Izzat M. Idriss, Ph.D., P.E., NAE, professor emeritus at the University of California, Davis

    • Raymond E. Levitt, Ph.D., professor of civil and environmental engineering and management research

    • Jon Magnusson, P.E., S.E., chairman and chief executive officer of Magnusson and Klemencic Associates

    • James D. "Don" Murff, Ph.D., P.E., industry consultant and visiting professor at Texas A&M University

    • Craig N. Musselman, P.E., president of CMA Engineers

    • Henry Petroski, Ph.D., P.E., NAE, professor at Duke University

    • Cranston R. "Chan" Rogers, P.E., a U.S. Army Engineer Reserve colonel

    • Jerry R. Rogers, Ph.D., P.E., D.WRE, professor at the University of Houston

    • C. Michael Walton, Ph.D., P.E., NAE, professor of civil engineering at the University of Texas at Austin.
