Vancouver, Washington Mayor Timothy D. Leavitt, P.E., director of civil engineering services for PBS Engineering + Environmental, and INC. Magazine Entrepreneur of the Year Larry Taylor will keynote the upcoming fall meeting of ASFE/The Geoprofessional Business Association, Oct. 7-9 in Portland, Ore. Leavitt will address engineering leadership through public service, and Taylor, well-known author of Be an Orange, will provide guidance to help already-successful companies get to “the next level” by focusing on strategy, culture, and people.
Also on tap, “Hunt It, Kill It, Cook It, Eat It,” a presentation about techniques ASFE-member firms have used to identify and acquire the Brownfield-redevelopment grants local jurisdictions need to pay for the firms’ services, while the firms also foster new client relationships and gain access to even more potential clients.
In a session titled “Joint Ventures – An Alternative Teaming Strategy,” several representatives of a highly successful joint venture will discuss the pros and cons of joint ventures, the keys to maintaining a successful relationship, what to look for in joint-venture partners, and means of structuring a viable management structure within a sustainable legal framework.
Other programs include: legal aspects of social networking, business roundtables where member-firm representatives share information about various business practices and experiences, and a panel of client representatives and others who will convey their sentiments about construction materials engineering and testing services. The meeting will offer a variety of additional programs and networking opportunities.
