CONTECH has announced the release of PhosphoSorb, a new filtration media that removes total phosphorus (TP), a major pollutant of our nation’s waterways, from storm water runoff. Excess phosphorus in water bodies can be detrimental to the ecosystem; many jurisdictions have implemented strict removal requirements for phosphorus in storm water runoff. PhosphoSorb media will help meet those regulations.
Removing phosphorus from urban runoff is difficult because it is present in two forms--particulate and soluble. Therefore, to effectively remove the pollutant, both forms must be targeted. PhosphoSorb is the first media for deployment in a radial-flow cartridge filtration system that targets both forms. Extensive laboratory tests and initial field tests have shown that the new filtration media can remove more than 50% TP from storm water runoff.
“At CONTECH, we are dedicated to providing customers with the solutions they need to meet their water quality goals,” said Greg Kowalsky, filtration product manager. “Part of that commitment is developing new solutions to deal with the latest storm water regulations. With PhosphoSorb, our customers can effectively meet the ever-increasing phosphorus removal requirements as well as help improve the health of our nation’s waterways."
