The Coca-Cola Bottling Co. has unveiled its first rain garden at the company’s Lexington, Ky., facility, the Environmental Leader reported.
The Coke bottle-shaped rain garden is a joint effort by Lexmark, EcoGro, Bluegrass Rain Garden Alliance, University of Kentucky School of Agriculture and Lexington Fayette Urban County.
Rain gardens capture storm water runoff and direct it to the garden. Debris from the lot will be broken down by microbes in the rain garden instead of going on to the street and entering the sewer system. This makes water running into the sewer cleaner and provides nutrients to the lawn without using additional water.
