The public's increasing interest in the conservation of the nation's water resources has directly affected many commercial, municipal, military and industrial facilities with significant drainage areas. These facilities are now facing increasingly stringent regulations covering the discharge of contaminated storm water and now risk costly penalties resulting from public pressure for the government to improve the quality of discharge waters.
Highland Tank's Solids Stormwater Interceptor (SSI) is a simple yet effective water quality inlet, typically employed in removing floating debris and settleable solids from a storm water stream prior to its entry into a detention basin, constructed wetland or collection system. The new SSI contains a series of sediment-settling chambers separated by baffles. The primary function of the SSI is to remove sediment, suspended particles and associated pollutants from storm water. It also contains trash screens to capture larger materials, trash and floatables.
SSI can be installed either in line or at the end of storm pipes. One advantage is that the solutions can be retrofitted into existing storm lines, allowing installation in difficult, hard-to-reach areas. This is especially important in areas where land is unavailable or too expensive for other storm water best management practices. Special steel flange coupling adapters can be supplied to facilitate connections between flanged fittings and plain end pipe, as with concrete pipe and other pipe types.
