On Oct. 7 and 8, the Southeast Chapter of the International Erosion Control Association (IECA) will host its Training and Field Days in Anderson, S.C. The event offers participants the opportunity to earn up to nine professional development hour credits; six of these may be earned on the first day.
Day two--Field Day--includes a trip to TRI/Environmental's Denver Downs Research Facility (DDRF), which is managed by Sprague & Sprague Consulting Engineers. The field portion will demonstrate for attendees how full-scale performance tests are conducted on DDRF erosion and sediment control systems and why this testing is vital to product and project specifications. Installation will also be a component.
Key demonstrations during the two-day event include: check structure evaluations; erosion control blanket installation or slopes; turf reinforcement mat installation in channels; hydraulic mulch application rates; soil retention devices (i.e., tubes, inlet protection, wattles and silt fences); large-scale slope, channel, curb/gutter and germination testing; silt fence installation and maintenance; and scour protection alternatives.
