  • MACTEC Names New Senior Principal Engineer

Timothy Lawrence, P.E., brings 25 years of public and private sector experience to the firm's Knoxville, Tenn., office
    March 11, 2010

MACTEC has named Timothy S. Lawrence, P.E., senior principal engineer. Allen Kibler, president of MACTEC Eng. and Consulting Inc., made the announcement.

Lawrence is based in the firm’s Knoxville, Tenn., office. He brings to MACTEC more than 25 years of public and private sector experience. Prior to joining MACTEC, Lawrence spent 11 years with a Knoxville engineering firm, serving most recently as technical lead for the company’s geotechnical services. Overall responsibilities included directing/managing projects, developing and reviewing proposals and mentoring junior staff.

    Key projects Lawrence supervised included:
UPF Phase I and II Explorations, Y-12 National Security Complex, Oak Ridge, Tenn. Included 52 geotechnical borings with rock coring. Lawrence also recommended soil and rock properties for use in the facility design.

Morgan County Correctional Facility Expansion Project, Wartburg, Tenn. Required fill over an extensive low wet area and rerouting of a creek. Drilled 177 borings in the expansion area and five nearby potential borrow areas. Observed initial site stabilization and monitored/evaluated pile load testing.

1,400-ft-tall guyed tower exploration, Knoxville. Directed exploration in widely varying terrain on Sharp’s Ridge near the city from one side of the ridge to the other. Provided foundation/anchor recommendations and soil and rock properties for design.

On the public sector side, Lawrence spent three years as a civil engineer with the U.S. Bureau of Mines, Twin Cities Research Center in Minneapolis, and four years as a civil engineering officer while serving as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.  Assignments for the latter ranged from construction manager to engineering section to planning section.

Lawrence is a licensed professional engineer in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering.
