Washington, D.C., comes out number one for the most green roofs installed
Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC), the green roof and wall industry association announces a 10% growth rate for green roofs in 2013 in its Annual Green Roof Industry Survey.
“We are pleased to see the continued expansion of the green roof market,” said GRHC Founder and President Steven W. Peck, GRP. “The industry’s continued growth is fuelled by the multiple public and private benefits green roofs bring, such as storm water management, reducing the urban heat island, energy savings and green jobs. With supportive public policies like those in Washington, D.C., we will make progress toward achieving the industry goal of 1 billion sq ft of green roofs installed by 2022.”
The Washington DC Metropolitan Region saw the installation of 2,164,926 sq ft of green roofs in 2013. Washington has adopted public policies and programs that support green roof investment, including rebates of $7-$15 per square foot per green roof installed and credits that reduce storm water fees. Public investment in green roofs yields multiple public cost saving benefits.
