Free Testing Available for Well Owners Post-Harvey

Kits will be distributed through AgriLife Extension offices

Wells may be contaminated post-Harvey

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service announced a collaboration with Rebuild Texas, Virginia Tech and others to offer free testing for total coliform and E. Coli to private well owners affected by Hurricane Harvey.

The tests are available and confidential to owners of private domestic wells in areas affected by the floods. Floodwater has the potential to contain material from manure, sewage and flooded septic systems rendering water inspection necessary.

“Private water well owners whose wells flooded from the recent rains should assume their well water is contaminated until tested,” said Diane Boellstorff, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service water resource specialist, in a release from Texas A&M University.
