As part of a settlement between Ventura County ocean conservation groups, the manufacturer will manage storm water violations
Arcturus Manufacturing Corp. has agreed to clean up its storm water runoff violations in Oxnard, Calif., and pay $150,000 to two ocean conservation foundations in a settlement after the Wishtoyo Foundation and Ventura Coastkeeper filed suit against the corporation in March 2017.
The conservation groups alleged that the company was responsible for storm water runoff comprised of metal components and byproducts from aerospace, chemical processing, and oil and gas industries in direct violation of the Clean Water Act. According to the complaint, the storm water runoff impacted Ormond Beach Wetlands, the Pacific Ocean and countless fragile ecosystems.
The recipients of the settlement plan to use the settlement money to analyze pollution and embark on educational initiatives. One of the organizations, the Multicultural Education for Resources Issues Threatening Oceans Foundation, plan to fund education programming for 4th to 12th grade students who will collect data and learn to monitor water quality, as reported by Courthouse News Service.
