2022 Top Projects | Hitchcock Woods Stormwater Management

Dec. 12, 2022
This project was part of the city’s Sand River Stormwater Implementation Plan, which seeks to address runoff from the downtown area into Hitchcock Woods.

SWS Managing Editor Katie Johns is joined by Jason Hetrick, assistant director of Water Resources at McCormick Taylor, Samantha Ritz, territory manager for StormTrap, and George Grinton, project manager for the City of Aiken to talk about another 2022 Top Project – the Hitchcock Woods Stormwater Management Project.

This project was part of the city’s Sand River Stormwater Implementation Plan, which seeks to address runoff from the downtown area into Hitchcock Woods. In 2020, McCormick Taylor began working on one of the recommended projects, which was to create approximately 25-acre-feet of stormwater storage within the Sand River watershed. During the design phase, the project team had to find a solution to maximize the amount of stormwater stored within the limited area site, thus, two interconnected 15-foot vaults were chosen to store and control the runoff.
