What’s in a name? Is Low Impact Design the same as Green Infrastructure? What’s the difference between Water Sensitive Urban Design and Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems? There are many terms used around the world for managing stormwater by working with the natural landform and focusing on small, frequent rainfall events. This presentation will briefly describe the central theme to each of these approaches and suggest a terminology to encompass all of them.
Steve Trinkaus is an internationally recognized expert in the application of Low Impact Development strategies, including the creation of LID Design Manuals. He chairs the Low Impact Development Model Ordinance Task Committee of the LID Standing Committee, Urban Water Resources Research Council, EWRI, which is part of ASCE. He is the primary author of a national LID Guidance Document developed for EWRI. He is also the chairman of the Filter Strip/Bioswales Task Committee of the same organizations noted above, whose purpose is to write a Manual of Practice for the design and construction of Filter Strips and Bioswales.
